COMPOSER, ARRANGER, CONDUCTOR ARTHUR KORB
MENTORED TRAVIS DURING A RECORDING SESSION
In "FEELIN' GOOD," Travis sang "I Beg Your Pardon" to his angry girlfriend (played by Patricia Ewing) on the swan boat ride in Boston Public Gardens. (He also re-recorded it for his current CD release, "Feelin' Better.")
Arthur Korb wrote the score for Feelin' Good. He had arranged and recorded Travis' Demo Derby title song while Travis was overseas, so although they shared the title song credit, this was their first meeting.
The two composers hit it off immediately. Arthur was delighted that Travis took such interest in just how Arthur placed the musicians in the studio -- and why.
Travis was as intent on learning as much as he could as Arthur was in sharing his orchestral recording techniques, learned through years of experience.
Then Jim Pike (who was paying the bills), came out to ask when Arthur would start recording. Arthur made a few last-minute adjustments and the session began.
Travis stayed in the booth, watching how Arthur worked with the musicians, the engineers, and the clock -- because in the studio, time is quite literally money.
